Aptim Environmental & Infrastructure, LLC, a leading engineering and environmental firm with a national presence and a thriving coastal engineering and science practice, is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a Project Manager for Marine Geosciences. With a suite of dedicated geophysical and geological instruments, APTIM performs full-scale offshore geological surveys and studies in support of coastal restoration, offshore renewable energy development, and a variety of offshore oil and gas applications. APTIM geoscientists specialize in offshore geophysical and geological data collection, processing, and reporting for investigations related to seabed and shallow to medium marine geology that is the foundation for mineral resource identification, regulatory permitting, infrastructure siting, geohazard analysis, pipeline/cable routes, and inspection surveys. The successful candidate will manage one or more Marine Geoscience projects, including managing client interactions, project schedule, project staffing, offshore data collection (managing and participating in the offshore operations), deliverable development and submittal, and all other aspects of project management.

Responsibilities:

APTIM seeks to hire a fulltime Project Manager in our Tampa, FL office (other APTIM offices can be considered based on candidate experience). The position will involve managing APTIM's Marine Geoscience projects, centered around collecting, processing, analyzing, and interpreting a variety of high-resolution geophysical data including sidescan sonar, multibeam sonar, shallow-penetration chirp seismic reflection, medium-penetration multi-channel seismic reflection, and magnetometer; as well as collecting, processing, analyzing, and interpreting marine vibracores and other seafloor geologic samples. The employee will use these data to prepare engineering, geological, and geohazard maps, technical and scientific reports and presentations for regulatory, facilities siting, foundation-design and a variety of other engineering applications in a team setting. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing all aspects of these projects (commercial, schedule, technical, quality, and communication), from pre-proposal, to proposal, through project award, project execution and project closeout. The successful candidate must be willing to occasionally travel and be able to adapt to challenging offshore environments.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for all phases of planning and execution on medium projects as defined by medium potential risk, complexity, and manpower requirements.

  • The Project Manager may be assigned complex projects within the Marine Geoscience program.

  • Project Manager will develop a project plan, assemble the proper personnel, develop a project timeline, identify required resources and execute the plan to completion.

  • The Project Manager will have complete accountability for specific Marine Geoscience projects from pre-proposal through project close out.

  • Study proposals, plans, technical/scientific reports, geophysical and geologic data, specifications and related documents; analyzing labor, material, equipment and time requirements; assembling & arranging geologic, geophysical, and descriptive information.

  • May have responsibility for multiple projects.

  • Establishes and monitors project safety and quality programs in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements.

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and controls projects in accordance with established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements.

  • Supervises project personnel through subordinate leaders and team members.

  • Supports business development activities and may serve as a proposal manager.

  • Represents the company when dealing with clients and maintains client relationships.

  • Act as offshore field party chief, managing field projects from planning, execution, logistics, team management, and general safety.

  • Maintain daily offshore activity and safety logs.

  • Provide field QA/QC of geophysical and geologic data during collection.

  • Collection and interpretation of geotechnical, geophysical, geologic and other scientific data.

  • Development of plans, specifications, analyses, evaluations, maps, position papers, procedures and reports.

  • Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc. via oral presentations.

  • Ensure conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.

  • Working with GPS, geophysical (chirp sub-bottom, sidescan sonar, magnetometers, etc.) and geotechnical (vibracores, surface grab samplers, etc.) equipment.

  • Open to travel and occasional extended field assignments in offshore environments.

Qualifications/Competencies/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science with 10 plus years of experience in project management/administration, geology, geophysics, geological oceanography, or related field of study or Master's degree and 5 years of relevant experience

  • Proven leadership and management capability.

  • Must have strong technical/scientific writing and oral communication skills.

  • Experience managing professional employees and/or supervisors; and/or business support, technical or production staff.

  • Experience with accountability for managing financial resources.

  • Experience providing safety and technical guidance to employees.

  • Experience developing processes and procedures to implement functional strategies.

  • Experience anticipating and interpreting customer needs and identifying potential solutions to customer problems.

  • Experience interpreting business issues and adapting work priorities in own area.

  • Experience managing budget for own area and allocating resources accordingly.

  • Experience resolving operational, customer, employee, or technical problems that impact the effectiveness of own area.

  • Experience managing the performance of employees by setting goals, performing timely assessments and evaluations, and coaching.

  • Experience advocating for and constantly encouraging the professional growth of subordinate team members.

  • Experience with geophysical systems (including chirp sub-bottom, sidescan sonar, magnetometer) is preferred.

  • Experience with geotechnical systems (including vibracores and grab samplers, etc.) preferred.

  • Marine geophysical data interpretation experience using SonarWiz, Hypack, and Discover Acquisition software preferred.

  • Experience with ArcGis, AutoCAD, Surfer software is preferred.

  • Experience mobilizing vessels for geophysical and geotechnical surveys preferred.

  • Works independently with minimal guidance. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Has expertise in own discipline. Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.
